Difference
The mini wombat has evolved into a smaller version of the Australian Mainland Common Wombat with the differences of that they are able to climb trees because they have stronger leg muscles and their hands and feet are smaller giving them a better grip on trees. They also no longer have the big front teeth because they are now mainly domestic pets and they do not need to hunt for food so over time they have smaller teeth. They have smaller ears now because they do not live in burrows and they do not need such sensitive hearing. The reduce in size ( similar size to a rat) happened because of the reduce of landmass that they can live in sue to humans building into their habitat. Their colour of their hair is lighter due to the fact that the world would have higher temperature due to global warming and with lighter hair colour they would be in less heat.
Diet
The mini wombat would still have the same diet as their ancestor the common wombats. But they would need less food as their size has reduced.
Distribution

The mini wombats are common to be as pets. The blue strips on the map shows where the wombats are as domestic pets. and the pink shows where they can still be found wild. The wild wombats are found on the Southeast coastal regions on Australia because of the loss of habitat so they have now moved to the coastal regions .
Habitat
The habitat of the mini wombat is very different to compared to the common wombat, they live in sandy areas where vegetation is still avablie and theydo not dig burrows anymore. The mini wombats which are domestic animals would be prefferably in cages with bedding and they would have the same diet as the wild wombats. The mini wombats live in the coastal regions of Southeast Australia because of the human interference that they have suffered from.
When the common wombats lived in woodlands and forest areas there was still those sort of habitats there. But for the mini wombats these conditions are no longer avablie and they have moved to the coastal regions. The coastal regions offer cooler weather because the mini wombats require the same temperature as the common wombats but due to global warming the temperature is warmer which is another reason why the mini wombats live around the coast.
The mini wombats also climb trees so their habitat would be the most suitiable when there are trees too. Mini wombats would eat plants and roots their habitat needs to have all their needs because they do not have anywhere else to move to due to humans. Humans have taken over their land and they do not have much places that they can move to.

Adaptations -Behavioral Adaptations (2) - Adaptations that the animal does to help it survive and reproduce. -Structural Adaptations(2) - Physical features that help the animal to live and reproduce. -Physiological Adaptations(1) -Concerning the physical adaptation, metabolism or internal chemistry of the animal.
Behavioral Adaptation 1
The mini wombats would use there hands to cover their eyes to sleep. This behavioral adaptation happens because the mini wombats are still nocturnal animals they only sleep in the morning but stay up at night. The mini wombats would use their hands to cover their eyes to create a darkness so that they can sleep. This adaptation happens to the mini wombats due to their different environment as they now live on the coast they have less cover from the sunlight and they do not dig burrows to stay in anymore. The domestic wombats might not have this adaptation as because that their owners know that they are nocturnal and might create a dark area for them already. Many animals might turn into domestic pets just like the mini wombats due to humans taking over land or global warming some of these animals can be the dingo or the laughing kookaburra .
Behavioral Adaptation 2
The mini wombats climb tree to get away from humans in the wild when they feel threatened. Also they climb trees to get food and to sharpen their nails. Having sharp nails for the wild mini wombats are very important because of the fact that they are wild and they are very territorial meaning that they would need to fight for space especially in the environment that they live in. Since it is so small and they do not have alot of places to move to as mentioned before. For the domestic mini wombat they do not all have trees to climb so their owners are advised to give them a brick for the same purpose but some owners tend to clip the mini wombats nails off so that they are not that sharp and long. This would not have happened to the common wombats as because they had alot of space and they did not know how to climb trees.
Structural Adaptation 1
Mini wombats are relatively smaller than the common wombats and they have stronger muscle tones and they have very strong legs for running and hopping. The mini wombats have to run or hop away from threats and with stronger leg muscles they can run and hop a longer distance. They have stronger leg muscles because they would now climb trees as well, so with all the muscle build up they have better and stronger muscles. The mini wombats they are domestic would obviously have stronger muscles too but not as strong as the wild mini wombats because they would do less exercise and moving around unless they have alot of space. The environment has played a major role in this adaptation because of the change in climate and habitat the wombats might have to go further to meet there needs such as gathering food and water.
Structural Adaptation 2
Having smaller hands also is an advantage to the mini wombats. They would now have a better grip on trees and they would also have better grip on the ground . As they now live in sand having a good grip when moving around is very important because it can conserve their energy and they would also cover more ground. Climbing faster is also a good thing for the mini wombats when tehy are under threat or are in trouble. With the change of habitat and the lack of space the common wombat has evolved into the mini wombat and the mini wombats have alot of advantage with these small hands. They do not need big hands for digging anymore because they do not need to dig or live in burrows but instead they use their little hands for:
- climbing
- eating
- walking/running/ hopping
Physiological Adaptation
The mini wombats joeys are able to survive without living in their mothers body as a physiological adaptation. This adaptation has developed over the years because of the fact to the mother pouch is very small . Having a small pouch would give the joey less space to develop in and they would not have as much nutrients as they need from their mother. The joeys also have a very strong sense of home and they would know how to go back to their mothers even when they are far away and the joeys would know to hide in their mothers pouch when they feel threatened or unsafe.
